WELCOME TO OUR NEW HOME

Growing up on a commercial cow-calf operation in Salesville, Ohio, Nick’s father and uncles used horses as part of their daily routine. As a teenager the horses were put aside as the farm transitioned to 4 wheelers and Nick focused on sports. Once in college, Nick began riding again and he has never looked back. He began breaking colts, team penning, and showing in ranch versatility classes. He also decided to start assembling a small band of quality broodmares.

While Nick is predominately known for his colt starting ability, he has enjoyed much recent success in various arenas. In four seasons showing reining horses, and over $20,000 in NRHA earnings, he has finished in the NRHA top ten year end standings in his respective divisions four times. He has placed in the Top 5 at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress and won multiple Hi-Point versatility awards in ranch horse competition. While his primary focus is on reining, Nick believes that establishing a firm foundation is the key to success in any discipline.

In 2008, Nick claimed a 2008 NRHA Reserve World Championship on Lagle & Savage’s mare, Ready Make Cowboy. In addition, the pair claimed the OVRHA Open Championship while earning “2008 Horse of The Year” honors.

2009 was a great start for Nelson Performance Horses. We are proud of our teams accomplishments, which include; OVRHA year end Rookie 1 and Prime Time champions, Rookie 2 reserve champion, two congress top ten finishes, OVRHA year end Open and Intermediate Open reserve champions, as well as the second highest scoring horse in the OVRHA futurity.

2010 proved to be another successful year for Nelson Performance Horses. We are excited to announce some of our clients accomplishments: two NRHA Top Tens, NAAC Rookie of the Year Qualifier, East Central Regional Affiliate Champion, multiple Congress Top Tens, 8 OVRHA year end Championships, as well as OVRHA Horse of the Year! Thank you to all of our customers for your support and dedication.

We are excited about the addition of several new members to our team and look forward to the upcoming show season. Riders of all ages and ability levels are welcome to join our program in 2011.

Nick would like to give a special “thanks” to the Savage family, Nick, Lynn, and Kali, for their friendship and support.  He looks  forward to operating out of their facility.
